UPDATES & ANNOUNCEMENTS
-
JULY 11, 2008
1. From Mary Mercer, Ad book coordinator: Calling all Band Parents who live in the
Sherman and Gaylordsville area. I need help in your neck of the woods. If you are willing to go to your local businesses and
see if they are willing to place an ad in our band directory book, I would greatly appreciate it. You can get the ad
form right off the band website (also attached). You can reach me at 354-7208 or my email is mercerford@aol.com. Thanks for your help!
2. We are holding a tag sale this Saturday from 9-4 at the Robert's Home at 8 Sherwood Drive
(near Sarah Noble School ). Some of you may remember the tag sale that was held at the school a few months ago...this tag sale is
the things that did not sell that day. If you are available to help or shop please stop by.
3. The next Can & Bottle Drive will be held on July 19th at Stop & Shop from 10
am until 2 pm.
For any new member...we collect bottles and cans and bring them to our monthly drives and donate the return funds to the Band
and Color Guard. Please collect your cans and bottles to donate if possible and ask from family and friends to save theirs
too. Also, all of the kids are expected to attend as often as possible and help put the cans and bottles in the machines
etc. Even if they can only stay for a short time - any help is appreciated (parents can stay too!).
4. We are selling tickets to our 2nd Annual Dinner Dance (August 16th) every
Tuesday while the kids are at rehearsal. Please join us for an evening of fun! Attached is the flyer with all of the information.
5. We supply bottles of water to the kids during each of the band competitions in the fall. We are asking that each of you
bring a case of water to one of the rehearsals this summer. We (and the kids) truly appreciate and rely on them to keep
our kids hydrated.
6. Reminder that SIM camp is August 11 – 15. See you then!
The board would like to welcome Kathy Brown as the
new color guard liaison.
Kathy will be a wonderful addition to the group.
Having both band and guard children in the program gives her access to important information - She can be contacted
at dogonekat@sbcglobal.net
An open letter from Lisa Holland:
Thank you to the wonderful parents that I have
worked with and have known these past 6 years I have been part of the New Milford Band Parents! It has been really fun!
No words could express how I feel about this great
organization and the people involved.
I remember the first day of band camp 7 years
ago when my eldest daughter joined band and there was little communication and interaction between the parents and the previous
band director's program. I am proud of all the work we have put into the Band Parents. I am happy that these email newsletters
that I began have helped parents become more involved and I know that the organization will only grow from here. As a result
of this great organization started only a few years ago, the worries of incoming freshmen parents are quickly eased with the
Freshmen Handbook and these newsletters which Krista Roberts will continue.
I have seen the tremendous growth this
band has made from Day One when Mr. Grauer arrived, to winning 3rd place at Championships last year! Jon Grauer is an excellent
band director and he will bring this band to even higher places!!
I will really miss not being part of this organization,
but I will always be your # 1 fan!!! And I wish you all a great summer and a fantastic marching season this coming year!!
As I hand over the job to Krista Roberts, I
know that she will be a great secretary.
Thank you again for such great memories.
Lisa Holland
Fall Show reminder:
The home fall show is Saturday, September 27.
This
is the time of year where we are asking for help in selling ads from local businesses for the Fall Show ad book.
We encourage you to place a personal ad for your children as well. Attached is the ad form for you to fill
out and get back to Mary Mercer at Mercerford@aol.com

Please let Krista Roberts
know:
if you no longer have a child in band, so she can remove
you from the summer email list.

Everyone who attended last year had a lot of
fun!!! So email Anna and reserve a table for all your friends and family.
Also....

On that note I am writing to ask for your help in securing donations for the opportunity table at the dance. We are looking
for gift certificates or donations of services from local businesses. If you work for a business that might be willing
to donate I have a letter you can present to your employer. You can contact me my e-mail at schamberlin8427@sbcglobal.net or call me at 203-788-8356
